When an individual or an organization purchases a domain name without ID protection , their ownership information ( names, address, phone number, email ) are put in a global domain owner’s database. This information is gathered by websites, which are called WHOIS engines . They publicly display these details online and thus domain owners often become victims of SPAM, SCAM or even identity thefts.
The domain ID protection feature, however, has been developed to mask your personal data and display different information on the WHOIS websites. It is called Domain ID protection or Domain Privacy. With it you still keep the actual ownership details on file but they are not being displayed publicly .
